Alberta Forestry needed three mobile communication trailers to carry electronics, a generator and a communications tower. Premiere was awarded the job in February 2023 to design, build and deliver all three before the end of March.
Each trailer is a 20 foot lowboy with a bumper hitch, dual braked axles and a 14,000 lb rating. On the deck sits a weather-tight electronics shelter, 68 by 80 inches and 74 inches high, built of welded aluminum sheet on a square tube frame. The shelter is insulated with closed-cell spray foam and lined with painted marine-grade plywood, with an aluminum checker plate floor and roll-up doors at both ends.
A diesel generator rides between the wheel wells under a fitted, UV-resistant cover, fed by a fuel tank at the rear. Each trailer also has a lockable aluminum toolbox at the front, a mount for a 1.8 metre auto-point satellite dish, a telescoping communications tower supplied by the Province, LED lights, non-slip steel steps and a stabilizing jack at each corner.
After the award, Premiere suggested building the trailers on aluminum frames instead of painted steel. The Province agreed and was happy with the result. Working closely with the trailer manufacturer, we designed, engineered and built all three and delivered them by March 31, 2023, the end of the provincial fiscal year.
