A private employer needed modern, comfortable housing for its seasonal workers. Premiere took the owner’s concept plan and designed and built a 6,200 square foot, three-storey residence as the design-build general contractor.
Each floor works as its own home. Every bedroom has private storage and a writing desk. The shared space on each floor covers 1,263 square feet, with two washrooms, two full kitchens with dining areas, a living room between them and a laundry room with two stacking washer and dryer sets. The kitchens have plenty of counter space so several people can cook at once.
The building is conventional wood frame on a concrete foundation. The lower level has 9 foot ceilings, which allow large windows while keeping the foundation below frost. Outside, a standing seam metal roof sits over a mix of board and batten and metal siding. Each floor has its own high-efficiency gas furnace, air conditioning and heat recovery ventilation.
Finishes were picked to last and to be easy to keep clean. Vinyl-wrapped drywall never needs painting. Steel doors and frames with commercial hardware need no casings. Vinyl plank floors have rubber baseboards. Building materials were in short supply at the time, so Premiere found alternative products and sources. The building was finished ahead of the eight-month schedule, in time for the workers’ arrival.
